The Church flourishes when people generously offer their time, talents, and leadership in service to others. We seek to form leaders dedicated to the common good, recognizing that “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). Through this spirit of service, all are strengthened and enriched.
Inspired by Pope Benedict XVI’s witness as a Cooperator of the Truth, the Leadership in Truth initiative seeks to foster a community of leaders guided by faith and reason. Authentic leadership is more than influence, strategy, or success; it begins with a commitment to truth, respect for human dignity, and a willingness to serve others. Through intellectual formation, meaningful encounters, and a trusted network of peers, the initiative seeks to cultivate leaders who contribute to the renewal of society, culture, and the Church.
The Leadership Network brings together leaders from society, government, business, culture, and the Church who seek to exercise their responsibilities in the light of truth and the theological vision of Benedict XVI.
Pope Benedict XVI did not leave behind management tools, but a profound spiritual and theological legacy. Whether as Pope, Cardinal, Archbishop of Munich and Freising, or professor, his thought becomes especially fruitful for leaders when it is understood from the heart of his Catholic faith.
The Leadership Network therefore invites leaders to engage this spiritual foundation together and to discover Benedict’s life and work for what they always were: theology in prayer. From this source emerges an orientation that remains deeply relevant for all who have been entrusted with responsibility—in professional life, public office, institutions, the Church, and personal relationships. It is within this shared foundation that the Network fosters encounter, trust, and collaboration among leaders committed to truth, human dignity, and the common good, in service of the Church and society.

Faith and public responsibility are inseparable in the thought of Benedict XVI. Leadership is not first a matter of technique, strategy, or managerial competence, but of vocation and discipleship. Those entrusted with people, institutions, or the shaping of society must first allow themselves to be led.
For Benedict XVI, authentic leadership begins with a living relationship with Christ. Through prayer, conscience, truth, and a deep awareness of one’s vocation, leaders receive the clarity and wisdom needed to exercise their responsibilities faithfully. Six principles for leadership rooted in faith, truth, service, and fidelity to one’s vocation.
Leadership receives its inner order when God is not pushed to the margins, but placed at the center. Whoever bears responsibility must have the courage to understand truth, dignity, and conscience not merely in functional terms, but in relation to God.
“Let us walk his ways under the guidance of the Gospel”: this wisdom stands at the heart of the Rule of Saint Benedict. To be led by the Gospel means not allowing decisions to be governed solely by utility, success, or external pressure, but by the revealed Word of God—by Christ himself.
Pope Benedict reminds us that the encounter with the Person of Christ must be renewed and deepened each day. For leaders, this means that whoever wishes to lead others must first be led himself—by Christ as guest, companion, and friend.
For Benedict XVI, leadership lived from faith begins with the pursuit of holiness. Holiness is not a withdrawal from responsibility in the world, but the interior form of Christian witness. Through cultivated liturgical prayer, meditation, adoration, and lectio divina, the human person is purified, strengthened, and made capable of a witness of particular effectiveness.
Christian leadership serves every person in charity, without distinction and without self-interest. It unites openness of heart with discernment, hospitality with interior order, and presence in the world with fidelity to one’s own mission.
Benedict emphasizes that what is asked is not first of all success, but faithful commitment. For leaders, this is a decisive correction: the fruitfulness of responsibility is not measured only by visible results, but by one’s spiritual attachment to the Lord and fidelity to one’s vocation and mission.
We create opportunities for leaders to encounter one another, deepen their formation, and engage the most pressing questions facing the Church and society. Through conferences, leadership forums, executive gatherings, and other initiatives, the Society fosters meaningful dialogue, faithful collaboration, and a shared commitment to truth and the common good.
